The Kitchen Counter from Cosentino that is Transforming our Via Teca Project

Table of Contents

With sweeping coastal views and the space to comfortably accommodate friends and family, the dated home of our Via Teca project was worth transforming. This project is set against an incredible backdrop of ocean blues, earthy browns, and vibrant greens of the Southern California coastline, and we really wanted an interior that mimicked that beauty without distracting from the view. In the kitchen, this meant a facelift that would elevated the design and embody coastal beauty. We partnered with Cosentino, manufacturers of premium stone surfaces, and installed their gorgeous Dekton line. It’s so good, you have to take a closer look.

Before

We loved the soft natural light that filled the kitchen, but not the inexpensive tile or dated cabinetry. We salvaged what could fit into our new design, but ripped out the rest.

The result is the softest layering of neutral color, pretty texture, and organic elements. The statement counters and backsplash are the ‘wow’ factor. We chose the Lucid Color in Cosentino’s Dekton line and love the mix of cool and warm tones in the dramatic veining. It’s such a lux look. It really works to meld the white-washed oak and painted Benjamin Moore Sea Pearl cabinetry.

We wanted shine in this space that would reflect the natural light, and so chose a glossy finish for both the counter and backsplash. The mitered edge keeps the foundation feeling modern and crisp, with rustic ceramic and wood styling adding character and depth.

Dekton is a technical, ultra-compact stone that can transform counters, walls, and floors, both inside and out. It is a sophisticated mixture of more than 20 minerals extracted from nature. Because it is made from organic materials, the look and feel are authentic. There were over 100 colors and multiple thicknesses we could have chosen, but we love how a bold cut of Lucid works in this space. It’s a subtle color that makes a big impact.

Because Dekton is compressed to be ultra dense, it is heat, stain, and scratch resistant, making it the perfect surface in this family home. We love getting a product that looks like natural stone, without the effort and upkeep.

Another reason we were excited to partner with Cosentino on their Deckton line is because the company has an eye toward sustainability. They offset the 100% of their CO2 emissions over the entire product life cycle, making Dekton the only Cradle-to-Grave Carbon Neutral surface on the market.
