The City of Washington issued numerous building permits in October, including seven residential construction permits with a total valuation of more than $3.57 million and commercial alteration or repair permits totaling more than $1.52 million.
The commercial permits included a $900,000 project to renovate the interior tenant space for the new Chase Bank Retail Banking Center and $600,000 to renovate the former Level 9 Heating & Cooling building on Highway A, which will be used for a new homeless shelter to be operated by the group Life’s River.
Although there were more commercial alteration or repair permits issued in September, the total dollar amount was lower than in October, at $343,000. The biggest commercial alteration or repair project with a permit issued in September was a $200,000 renovation to the Marshalls building, although a permit for new commercial construction for the $419,526 project to build a new Dunkin’ Donuts location was also issued.
Other permits issued in October included $153,129 in residential alteration and repair permits, up from $59,500 in September; $79,551 in commercial signage permits, up from $69,933 in September; and $32,000 in residential deck and porch permits, down from $82,000 in September.
Some categories of permits were issued in September but not October, and vice versa. A $188,464.50 commercial addition permit for Franklin County Animal Medical Center was approved in September, for example, while no commercial addition permits were issued in October.
Residential accessory structure permits totaling $80,000 were issued in October, along with a $21,400 industrial sign permit for Precoat Metals and a $21,000 commercial electrical permit. No permits in these categories were issued in September.
