English Premier League table 2022/23: Updated EPL standings as Man United secure top four

Three-time Premier League champions Manchester City are now doing their victory lap with one final road match remaining at Bournemouth, and surely one more guard of honour. Their 12-match winning run was interrupted in a 1-1 draw vs. Brighton on Wednesday.

As for the race to get into Europe, Newcastle United locked up a top-four spot and a Champions League berth with one match to go, and Man United joined them by thrashing lowly Chelsea. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Brighton are locked into Europa League football.

The lone Conference League qualifier berth for 7th place is still up for grabs with three clubs in the running to finish there on the final day.

In the battle to avoid relegation, the race is down to three teams on the final day with two of them guaranteed to be sent down: Leicester City, Leeds United, and Everton. All three are at home, but Everton start the day in the driver’s seat with a win against Bournemouth securing their place in the Premier League.

Below is the full Premier League table followed by a snapshot of each race.

Champions League places, European places

The top four in the table automatically qualify to next season’s Champions League group stage. Fifth and sixth place qualify directly to the Europa League group stage

One of those Europa League group stage spots goes to the FA Cup winners, but with finalists Man City and Man United in the top four, that berth will transfer to sixth place in the Premier League.

With Manchester United winning the Carabao Cup, that means the Conference League qualifying spot that is awarded to the Carabao winners will instead be passed on to the 7th-place team in the Premier League table.

European places as of Thursday, May 25:

  • Champions League berths (4): Man City, Arsenal, Man United, Newcastle
  • Europa League berths (2): Liverpool, Brighton
  • Conference League qualifying berth (1): Aston Villa

Premier League relegation

The relegation musical chairs are nearly full with the music soon set to stop. There are two relegation spots left and three teams dancing around them.

Both Leeds and Leicester will go into the final matchday praying that Everton lose to Bournemouth. That’s because a Toffees victory on Sunday would condemn both Leicester and Leeds to play in the second-tier Championship next season.
