AD100 interior designer Jennifer Post’s ninth-floor condo inside the storied Apthorp has just hit the market for $5.5 million.
Post, whose clients include stars like Jennifer Lopez and Simon Cowell, as well as hedge fund billionaires, has worked on homes from Billionaires’ Row to London, and even in Paris, Aspen, Palm Beach, California and the Hamptons. Now, she is listing her personal sanctuary on the Upper West Side, where Post has lived — in different units — for the past 25 years.
When she first moved in, Post had a palatial (and rent-stabilized) 5,000-square-foot home that cost around $1,780 a month.
Robert De Niro was her upstairs neighbor, and pop star Cyndi Lauper — who still lives in the building, along with newer residents, like Amanda Seyfried — was also there, along with the late screenwriter and New York Post scribe Nora Ephron, who used to write in the famed courtyard where Post liked to draw.
When Post’s rent-stabilized deal ended, she opted to stay in the building at market rates. In 2010, when the building converted to condos, she bought this two-bedroom, 2½-bath unit for $2.83 million.
In 2017, she gut renovated it. “Finally, I had the time to do a gut renovation for myself and do full custom interiors that reflect my aesthetic: clean, crisp, soft yet elegant,” she told Luxe magazine at the time, noting that she “went down to the studs and original terra-cotta walls of the building.”
The 2,422-square-foot residence opens to a gallery that leads to a large living room with 12-foot ceilings, oversize windows and a gas fireplace. There’s also a dining room with partial river views and a custom chef’s kitchen with white lacquer cabinetry.
The main bedroom suite includes a dressing room and custom walk-in closets, while a second bedroom features large windows, custom cabinetry and a built-in desk along with two walk-in closets and a windowed spa bath. Post’s anti-clutter, minimalist aesthetic — best to showcase art collections — is evident throughout the space. Design details for the smart-wired home include replacing the parquet with marble floors, Venetian plaster finish walls and custom moldings, millwork and lighting.
The building, which dates to 1906, features one of the city’s only landscaped courtyards, along with a roof deck, a gym, a spa, an entertainment suite with a bar and catering kitchen and a children’s playroom.
