The imm cologne 2024 fair opened again in January with a totally new format and layout, more focused on business and interactions, but always as a space where to find news and inspiration for the new year trends in furniture and design. The show’s central theme this year was “Connecting Communities” with a new structure concept, called “The Circles“: a flowing layout with circular spaces, serving as space where to inspire, connect, network.
I curated one of the two “Inspiration Circles” , together with Stefan Nilsson, and in this post I am telling more about the concept and idea behind the installation.
“Supernatural”

The word “Supernatural” is synonymous with ethereal · heavenly · magical · mystical · out of this world but can be also read as“ super + natural “ , as a new interpretation of nature.
Inspired by this word and by the feeling of daydreaming, we created a corner that invited people to be surprised and look up, deliberately different from what was around at the fair.
We choose a palette defined by soft white, beige and different pastel shades, with pops of pink and terracotta. Together with this, we selected furniture with curved shapes and objects with glazed surfaces reflecting the light in different colors (Kare Design, Montis and Fermob). On the roof, we hanged lamps that was supposed to be on tables – to create a sense of surprise and wonder, and invite people to look up.

“In Contrast”

Very interesting was also to see the other “Inspiration Circle“, curated by Claudia Böttcher and Igor Josifovic-Kemper. “In Contrast” was the the theme of their installation, featuring contrasting materials and colours carefully styled together, to inspire you decorating home in a different way.
