A Parallel Architecture has designed this striking lakefront home located on Lake Austin, a water reservoir on the Colorado River in Austin, Texas. This sinuous waterfront residence features light floating roofs that are anchored to the site by robust, weathered limestone masses. Its horizontal footprint is spread out and sewn through the vertical punctuation of mature sycamore, cypress, and pecan trees.
The resulting 6,750 square-foot structure eloquently mirrors the organic character of its surroundings, achieving a balance between openness and solidity, incrementally tuned to maximize its connection to the picturesque, yet recreationally active lakefront. At the glassy heart of the home, the structural framework is exposed to reveal a rhythmic steel vertebrate that organizes the main public spaces and offers definition and scale to the expansive rooms.
A warm and inviting interior palette of oak, mahogany, and cedar provides a gentle contrast to the glass and stone elements, creating a relaxed livability that is paramount for the homeowner.
The outdoor landscaping has an understated presence while accommodating many amenities, including a large boat dock, fishing pier, sandy beach, and on-site services such as geothermal climate control, waste treatment, and water collection.
