Man accused of killing Dutch soldier was ‘looking for trouble’

One man was killed and two other men were injured in a shooting in the 100 block of South Meridian Street that occurred on August 27, 2022. The men were Dutch soldiers visiting the city while in the country training at a facility in southeast Indiana, according to the Netherlands Department of Defense.

Shamar Duncan and his friends have been “on the lookout for trouble” the night he is accused of fatally taking pictures a Dutch soldier and injuring two other folks in downtown Indianapolis, a witness informed police.  

The witness watched as Duncan’s team crossed Meridian Road close to the IndyStar setting up and shoved a gentleman in a person group, which walked absent. Duncan’s group then received into a 2nd altercation that would flip fatal, the witness advised police in the probable trigger affidavit for Duncan’s arrest.  

Duncan, 22, was arrested Tuesday and is going through a preliminary cost of murder in the taking pictures that transpired in the 100 block of Meridian Road about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.  

Simmie Poetsema, 26, died in the capturing soon after struggling a solitary gunshot wound to the back again his head outside the house the Hampton Inn lodge. Duncan’s team was on the lookout for a combat and bumped into them as they walked previous, according to witnesses from the Dutch soldiers’ team. Poetsema and other folks in the team of soldiers have been making an attempt to diffuse the scenario that inevitably turned into a fight, which lasted someplace among 30 seconds and a handful of minutes, witnesses advised police.
