Employee headshot in front of a treeThere are many roads to a career in construction, and one path may include an internship with Granger Construction. The following feature includes insights from 2023 intern Blake Brykalski. As a Project Engineer intern, Blake assisted with the Oakland University Varner Hall Renovation and Expansion.

  • Name: Blake Brykalski
  • School: Michigan State University
  • Hometown: South Lyon, MI
  • Major: Building Construction Management
  • Year: Senior

Seeing a project grow is my favorite aspect about construction. Witnessing a project start from almost nothing and turning it into an amazing building is always satisfying.

I would walk by the MSUFCU project, in downtown East Lansing, on my way to class. I was always amazed by the detail and scope of the building itself. When I found out that Granger was responsible for that project, I knew I wanted to work for them.

Entering my internship with Granger, I was still unsure if I wanted to go down the Superintendent or the Project Engineer route. Spending time with the Project Engineers onsite helped me expand my knowledge about the industry. After only a month, I’d already learned a lot from my experience.

The advice I would give other students entering the industry is to join the Granger family. The interns are treated very well, each team and department is amazing, and there is a community in Granger that you will not find anywhere else.
