For years I have been fascinated by William Morris’ accomplishment in carpet style and design and manufacture. His efforts to revive the craft of carpet weaving and his introduction of original designs led to a succession of a complete new movement in Britain.
Rugs of the arts and crafts movement are now particularly uncommon. They ended up under no circumstances woven in huge amount like the oriental rugs. Toward the end of the nineteenth century, carpet weaving went as a result of such a renaissance that the passion of this art direct those away from other professions.
A experience of liberation pervaded the movement. Morris led, Voysey, Morton, and Mackintosh followed. They produced not just a design, but the fashion of the twentieth century attractive arts.
Among the noblest of the movement’s achievements was its carpets.
