We love our wood-alternative flooring collection with Hewn Flooring! We have been using it in our recent projects and the floors look so beautiful. If you have been following along with us for years, you know that we almost always use European white oak, so for us to switch to wood-alternative, you know it has to be good. Hewn’s revolutionary Stoneform floors are crafted largely from stone but built to capture the dimension, texture, and feel of traditional flooring—without the upkeep, risk, or cost. Thinking about installing but have a few questions? Read on to see if today’s post has the answers! Here are five frequently asked questions.

How do you install Hewn Flooring on stairs?

Pura Vista Project / Mykals Photography

Installing our flooring on your stairs in much easier than you think, and you can even do it yourself. You will need to order the flush stair nose transition trim; we offer these in every flooring color of our collection. And, keep in mind, the stairs in your home will be the only place you will be adhering the flooring with caulk. Check out this easy to follow stair installation video from Brent’s Woodworking and More.

Can Hewn Flooring be installed over existing flooring?

Yes, Hewn Stoneform® can be installed over permanently-fasted floors like ceramic tile or glue-down vinyl, but it cannot be installed over floating surfaces like laminate flooring or carpet. If you plan to install your new flooring over concrete, ensure the concrete is fully cured; however, HEWN’s manufacturers highly recommend using a 6 mil plastic moisture barrier or underlayment no matter what.

Can water get through the cracks?

Not at all! HEWN Stoneform® is 100% waterproof. You can let your pets on your floors with no worries, your kids can come in from being in the pool without ruining the floors, and you can hone in on your inner chef skills without worrying about spills seeping through the floors.

Does it feel like tile when you walk on it?

Hawaii Project / Adam Taylor Photography

To the touch, HEWN Stoneform® is remarkably similar to hardwood, so it will not crack like traditional tile floors do. Stoneform® is a hardwood alternative that is designed to look and feel like traditional hardwood flooring.

How do I choose the best color for my home and style?

Order samples and see how each color looks in your space! The amount of both natural and artificial light a room receives, adjacent paint colors and even furniture and rugs can change the way any flooring will look in your unique space. Already ordered samples and. still can’t decide? Reach out to HEWN! They can schedule you for a free virtual consultation and answer all your questions.
