Alder Commons: An Uncommon Project

Getting house builders, we at Hammer & Hand expend a lot of our time doing remodels, new properties, and the occasional commercial TI in Portland and Seattle. Although we pleasure ourselves on getting leading-notch builders and good associates of our communities, it’s not typically that we get to be involved in a task that is intended all over the principle of group setting up itself. Performing on the Alder Commons community kitchen area construct-out was a uncommon handle for us, and just one that intended a large amount to many customers of our crew.

For the uninitiated, Alder Commons is a nonprofit space designed to facilitate multigenerational, multicultural neighborhood making and private growth. They offer a location for self-directed discovering in courses and workshops on a large variety of subjects and for a various array of peoples. From cooking courses to bookshelf creating, art courses to homeschool hangouts for children in the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities, Alder Commons serves as a community crossroad for intersectional cultural appreciation and self-advancement.

Our mission is to cultivate an equitable, all-ages group of self-directed learners. We goal to decrease obstacles in between youth and older people of assorted backgrounds by offering an available and inclusive house for them to share knowledge and methods.” (source: Alder Commons | Philosophy)

When the Alder Commons crew approached Hammer & Hand about creating their local community kitchen area house, we ended up thrilled for the option to deliver their desire to lifetime. The project was built by Communitecture, a regional architecture agency with an eye for imaginative group areas and a mission for social justice. As traditional builders with a aim in the two structure-pushed initiatives and progressing diversity, fairness, and inclusion within our personal marketplace, it was a great suit for Hammer & Hand. We specific our heartfelt gratitude to Alder Commons for picking out Hammer & Hand to make a house that is now a commissary kitchen area serving as residence base for 16 little, the greater part-QTBIPOC foods and herbalism corporations.
