Downtown Ravenna landmark renovated; Etna House not affected

Hummel Construction renovation to make the former Triangle Pharmacy space more wheelchair accessible.

A person of Ravenna’s oldest downtown landmarks, vacant for five a long time, is undergoing a renovation.

The former Triangle Pharmacy, which closed in 2017, is undergoing renovations to make the house a lot more wheelchair accessible.

Pamela Country Calhoun, govt director of Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority, said the agency, which owns the constructing, is “completing an inside renovation of the property …to enable for accessibility.” The Etna Property next door, which PMHA also owns, is not affected, she explained. 

The structure at Park Way and West Major Avenue was built just after the Civil War as the Etna Block. When it first opened in 1868, the building housed a hotel and seven retail retailers, in accordance to “The Ravenna Reserve” by Thomas Gregory.

The corner retail place opened as the Triangle Pharmacy in 1948. Former owners Jim Coll and Andy Drnjevich purchased the pharmacy in 1992, and immediately introduced a renovation. They added the back part of the retail outlet, which at the time linked to the lobby of the previous Ravenna Resort, and established up a lunch counter and modernized pharmacy.
